Bio

Dr. Shia is a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and elbow. Dr. Shia grew up in Brookline, Massachusetts and performed his undergraduate education at the University of Rochester. Following his undergraduate training he completed his medical school education at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He graduated with honors and received the Lawrence Linienfield award for excellence in physiology.

Dr. Shia performed his residency training in orthopedic surgery at Washington University in Saint Louis. U.S.News and World Report ranked Washington University as the #2 Orthopaedic Residency Program in the country in 2015. While at Washington University, Dr. Shia was involved in the care of the professional sports teams including the St. Louis Rams NFL team and the St. Louis Blues NHL team. Dr. Shia has had the opportunity to present at various conferences and has published in several orthopedic surgery journals on different topics including shoulder arthroscopy, hip surgery, and shoulder replacements.

Following the completion of his chief residency year, Dr. Shia pursued further fellowship training in shoulder and elbow sports and reconstructive surgery at Washington University. This prestigious fellowship encompassed a diverse experience including both reconstruction and advanced arthroscopic/sports applications to the shoulder and elbow. Washington University is regarded as one of the leading programs in shoulder and elbow surgery and is one of the top three high volume centers in the country for shoulder and elbow replacements.

Dr. Shia has now relocated back to the east coast with his wife and two children to be closer to family and to continue in the excellent care of patients.
