Spine Surgery Pre-Op Class

Patients who plan to undergo Spine Surgery are expected by their  surgeons to attend the Spine Surgery Pre-Op Class.

This newly designed interactive educational program is coordinated and taught by Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute’s Nursing Navigators.

Please contact Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute at 860.384.8614 or 203.464.7819 to schedule a class no less than two weeks prior to your surgery. This program will help you to better understand what to expect with your spine surgery.

The discharge planning process helps patients to determine the optimal course of rehabilitation post operatively. Ideally the plan should be to return home after your spine surgery. A pre op assessment will be done to help us prepare you for discharge. In the occasional event that a short term rehab necessary, the case manager on the unit will set you up with a rehab facility in close proximity to your home and family. Spine surgery patients who participate in pre-operative education classes will become better prepared for their upcoming surgery.

Spine Surgery Pre-Op Class

These classes are designed to educate patients on what occurs before, during and after hospitalization. The nurse navigators provide specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery, equipment requirements, insurance restriction and post-operative care. We have classes scheduled for multiple days, times and locations. Class is designated for patients having spine surgery.

Spine Surgery Online Pre-Op Class

In the event you are unable to attend the Spine Surgery Pre-Op Class, Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute also offers an online version. The online class is a convenient option for those patients who are unable to attend an in-person session. It outlines the things you need to do before, during, and after surgery. Planning tools, advice on medications, diet recommendations and exercise recommendations are also included. We encourage you to view the online class in its entirety. After completing the online pre-op class, you will be asked to confirm your completion and send us your feedback.
