We are dedicated to preventing post-operative injuries and educating patients on what to expect during and after hospitalization for total joint replacements. Education on these topics can positively impact recovery and minimize the neead for future treatment. We also offer preoperative education programs for hip and knee replacement patients and their families.

Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute offers patients a variety of new tools in orthopaedic surgery, including Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery System, a surgeon-controlled robotic arm system that enables even more precise alignment and placement of implants, and O-arm® Surgical Imaging System, which allows our surgeons to perform less invasive procedures and avoid the potential for later revision surgeries in complex orthopaedic cases.

MidState’s Total Joint Replacement and Spine Surgery Programs were chosen for consistently delivering evidence-based, safe care and a proven commitment to continuous improvement.
Award Winner in Premier Bundled Payment Collaborative
MidState Medical Center has been recognized for success in two categories of the CMS Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) bundle payment model: “Positive Savings and Excellent Quality in CJR Performance Year Four" and “Most Improved in CJR Performance Year Four.”
The Joint Replacement CJR model tests bundled payments and quality measurements for care within the 90 day episode of care associated with hip and knee replacements to encourage hospitals, physicians, and post-acute care providers to work together to improve the quality and coordination of care from the initial hospitalization through recovery. The CJR model began on April 1, 2016 and will run through March 31, 2021, with the possibility of a three-year extension.
COI Nursing Unit at MidState Achieves National Recognition
The National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses (NAON) selected the Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute (COI) at MidState Medical Center to receive the Orthopaedic Nursing Excellence (ONE) Award, the first national recognition for nursing at the Institute.
The ONE Award was developed to recognize units that have distinguished themselves to be models of excellence in orthopaedic nursing. Criteria included patient outcomes, staff satisfaction, interdisciplinary communication and teamwork, low staff turnover and national recognition.
