Dr. John D. McCallum, III
Co-Medical Director

Dr. John D. McCallum, III, a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, specializes in hip and knee problems including arthritic and sports related injuries. He has been an innovator of hip and knee arthroscopic surgery, salvage and reconstructive techniques, including minimally invasive treatments. Dr. Denisa Lujic, MBA
Director of Anesthesia

Dr. Denisa Lujic is a board-certified anesthesiologist. She graduated from Lehigh University with a BA in neurobiology and a minor in philosophy. She then went on to St. Georges School of Medicine earning her Doctorate of Medicine. She completed her residency in anesthesiology from the University of Connecticut where she served as chief resident and received the David B. Little award. Following her residency, she continued her education at the University of NewHaven, where she received her MBA.

Dianne Vye

Dianne Vye, MSN, RN, ONC
Regional Director of Quality and Safety

Dianne Vye, MSN, RN, ONC is the joint replacement program coordinator for MidState Medical Center in Meriden and The Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. She has been in orthopaedic nursing for 20 years, with extensive experience in orthopaedic program development. Dianne collaborates with other disciplines to provide education, support and consultation to enhance the quality of care delivered and develop services for joint-replacement surgery patients.

Thomas Mangano, MHS, MBA, PA-C
Director of Operations

Tom performed his undergraduate training at Quinnipiac University, where he graduated magna cum laude in 2006. Upon completion of this degree, he received his MHS from Quinnipiac in 2008. After graduation, Tom worked as a physician assistant in the emergency department at The Hospital of Central Connecticut from 2008 to 2013.

Cathy Mangini, RN
Nurse Manager

Cathy has more than 35 years of experience in nursing, including patient care at the bedside, quality improvement and nurse management. Her focus is on patient satisfaction, delivering the best and safest care possible.

Tara has been with MidState since 2001 and has cared for all surgical patients, oncology, and orthopedic patients.
She is dedicated to quality improvement, patient satisfaction, and part of our nurse management team since 2018.

Billie Foraker

Billie J. Foraker, RTR
Regional Physician & Community Operations Manager

Billie has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare with a focus on orthopaedics. She is a registered radiologic technologist and has enjoyed working with orthopaedic surgeons her entire career.

Previously, she served as the Director of Clinical Operations at Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialists, where she was responsible for the operational integration of several orthopedic practice mergers, new physician practice development, as well as staff and team building.

Karen Platt, BSN, RN, ONC
Regional Program Manager

Karen began her career 25 years ago in orthopaedic and neurosurgical nursing with an emphasis on patient and family education. She collaborates with all disciplines to enhance the quality of care and services delivered to orthopaedic patients.

Karen has supported the team through multiple Joint Commission surveys to maintain our Certification as a Center of Excellence in Hip and Knee Replacement and is leading the charge to achieve Advanced Joint Replacement Certification. Karen is experienced in facilitating improved quality outcomes for orthopaedic populations, most notably increasing early mobility and decreasing length of stay and skilled nursing facility utilization.

Karen received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Saint Anselm College and certification in Orthopaedic Nursing. She is a former Nightingale award winner, which recognizes excellence in nursing.
